The Ideal Candidate for cosmetic Rhinoplasty nose surgery are the following:
- Clear goal for what is the desired nasal change
- Realistic expectations
- Healthy : Physically and Emotionally
- Avoid smoking and drug use (like cocaine): these will slow down healing
- Between the ages of 18 and 35 years old (when nasal growth is mostly complete. Age can also impact expectations and healing). An experienced rhinoplastic surgeon can deliver excellent results for patient older than 35 years old.
The following issues present a challenge to the Rhinoplastic surgeon:
- Thick skin (Thick skin heals more slowly and takes a longer time to achieve the final result. Also thick skin does not shrink as much as thin skin after surgery, and so the nose may always look slightly larger than desired, and may require steroid injections after rhinoplasty sugery to address thick scarring under the skin)
- A Crooked nose (This can be made more straight looking, but will never be 100% straight. Crooked noses are weaker than straight noses, and may collapse during surgery. An experience and well trained Rhinoplasty Surgeon is needed in order to help achieve the desired result with maximum risk prevention)
- A nose that is too long or too pointy. (Realistic expectations are very important in this case, since there is a limit to how much the nose can be pulled inwards, but an experienced Rhinoplasty surgeon will be able to improve the length and tip shape satisfactorily)
